If you happen to be hanging around Toronto this Friday night (March 28) and happen to have nothing to do, why not swing by Keep Six Contemporary Gallery, 938 Bathurst Street, from 6 - 10 pm for the opening of the Bax Bear World Tour? You'll be treated to a sumptuous visual feast of over 100 Do-It-Yourself Bax Bears customized by artists and illustrators from across the country, including one from yours truly. My bear (pictured) was inspired by "nkisi" figures, protective sculptures created by the Kongo people of the Democratic Republic Congo, which served a variety of purposes, from protection against evil spirits or bad luck to cementing oaths and resolving arguments.
